How do I add members to a household?
There are two ways, depending on who is joining: adults have their own account and join with an invitation code. Kids and guests have no account – you create a profile for them that is switched with a PIN.
Part 1
Invite adults
Partners, flatmates, grandparents or club colleagues get an invitation code. They create their own account and join with it. Only owners and admins can create invitations.
- Open Manage
Tap Manage at the bottom, then Members & PINs.
- Go to invitations
At the top you find Invitations. Tap New invitation.
- Choose role and validity
Role: usually Member (completes tasks, maintains knowledge and objects) or Admin (may manage everything). Valid for: 24 hours, 3 days, 7 or 30 days. Uses: how often the code may be redeemed – 1 is enough for one person.
- Send the code
Either enter an e-mail address and tap Send by e-mail – the person receives code and link, optionally with a Personal message. Or tap Share invitation and send the code yourself via messenger, or Copy code.
- The invited person: install the app and create an account
Open collabDoo on their own iPhone and choose Create new account – with e-mail and password or Sign in with Apple.
- Join with the code
After signing in, Your team appears. Choose Join with code, type the 8-character Invitation code and tap Check code. The preview shows household and role – then Join. Tapping the link from the e-mail lands right here.
Anyone who already has an account (from another household, say) simply signs in and chooses Haushalt wechseln → Mit Code beitreten in the menu. One account can be a member of several households.
You can create a profile for the person in advance (name, avatar, groups) and bind the invitation to it. On joining they take over the prepared profile including tasks – the preview then says Vorbereitetes Profil.
Part 2
Create kids and guests
Kids need no invitation, no e-mail address and no password. You create a profile for them in the household. Guests – grandma until Sunday, say – work the same way, just with an end date.
- Open the members
Manage → Members & PINs → Create profile.
- Name and role
Enter the Name and choose Child as the Role – or Guest, which adds Guest until with a date.
- Choose an avatar
Under Avatar tap a Preset image (panda, cat, musketeer …) or choose emoji and colour. A personal photo can be added after creating via Edit profile.
- Set a PIN (optional)
PIN (optional): 4 to 6 digits, entered twice. With a PIN only those who know it can switch. Without a PIN anyone at the device can pick this profile – handy for the little ones on the kitchen tablet.
- Birth year (optional) and save
collabDoo only needs the Birth year if you want to limit tasks to a minimum age. Then Save.
- Adjust later
In the profile you find Change PIN / Remove PIN, Groups (“kids” for the rotation, say), a personal Background for the simple view and Add absence for holidays.
Kids and guests always see the app in the simple view: just “Today” and “My goals”, big cards, little text. They cannot manage anything, confirm anything or hand tasks to anyone outside their group.
Mitglied entfernen deactivates the profile and releases open tasks. Completions stay in the history so the past remains traceable.
Part 3
Switching profiles – how kids get into “their” app
Whether on their own phone or the shared tablet: the active profile determines whose tasks are shown and who gets credit for completions.
- Tap the avatar top left
In the Today view tap the profile picture or choose Switch profile in the menu.
- “Who are you?”
Tap your own picture in the profile grid.
- Enter the PIN
If the profile has a PIN, Enter PIN for … → Unlock appears. After five failed attempts the profile is briefly locked.
Widgets on the home and lock screen always show the device’s last active profile.
